Adding a little more to the past discussions on the topic of the link between ladder road names and past sea navigators. Spotted this tablet by the beautiful Rotherhithe Tunnel Shaft 3. Zoom in to read. Navigators Frobisher and Willoughby are mentioned.
PS. The video for The Specials song Ghost Town was partially filmed in Rotherhithe tunnel :)

Good to see Narrow St still exists. It has taken Ratcliff Cross in name however, the bit that extends around and now up to the Limehouse approach road. Funnily enough my son and I went through the blue gate (shown in this streetview link) and down what were known as Ratcliff Cross stairs, onto the sandy foreshore, .... before we came across that tablet at the Rotherhithe shaft.
Didn't feel any ghosts of navigators past but, it was a peaceful spot :)
Most of my youth on the ladder it was never called that. It was however sometime referred to as the Admirals estate. This does not entirely hold up as many names have no admiral connected to them. At our end of course they did - Sidney, Raleigh, Hampden, Luasanne, Frobisher, Falklands, Fairfax were all OK and there are others. But there are other theories I believe?
