Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Today I almost got knocked over by a driver who turned at great speed into Burgoyne Road from Green Lanes (which is not allowed as it is one way in the other direction)

Wonderfully a police car happened to be driving the right way down Burgoyne Road so I was pleased at the thought that the idiot driver would get his comeuppance. Instead, the police just signalled that he should do a u-turn and did not stop him, check his details, give him a bollocking or anything.

The driver u turned, let the police pass and then parked. I pointed out to him that he had almost run me over and he smirked and said he hadn't seen the signs saying it was one way. I pointed out there were lots of signs and it is painted on the road and he said "perhaps I should go to specsavers" and walked off sniggering and saying something in an eastern European language to his friend.

I would have thought driving the wrong way up the street is a pretty serious breach of traffic law and would have merited the driver being stopped and punished in some way. The driver was clearly an absolute moron as well so I wouldn't have been that surprised if he wasn't that bothered to keep his insurance/mot/licence etc up to date.

The car is still parked outside- if I took the reg down and emailed the police would they be at all likely to follow it up?

I'd do it anyway Elle, it will make you feel better and it might cause him some bother. I'd be furious too - both at the bad driving and the police not saying anything.
I'm suprised that the law does not cover letting someones car tyres down via the tyre valve. Apparently there is no criminal damage.
James, I like it!
You should definitely make a complaint about this - driving the wrong way on a one way street is a serious offence, the police should treat it as such. It is not up to individual officers to decide whether or not a violation of traffic laws does or does not constitute an offence. At the very least the driver should have been stopped and questioned.
Make a complaint to https://secure.met.police.uk/complaints/
I get really annoyed by the way that the police, in London at least, treat traffic offences as if they aren't worth bothering with.
Yes, well done Met. Max Clifford would charge you guys a fortune.

The City Police WILL stop you cycling the wrong way down a one way street and can fine you 60 pounds.
I've sent them an email on the link given - thanks Danzigger
I don't really anticipate they will do much about it but it makes me feel better at least!

Hopefully the idiot driver will get what is coming to him some time soon.
In an ideal world, this driver would get a severe talking to from the cops, and, having learnt the error of his ways, would drive more carefully in future.
What will actually happen is that this driver will continue flout the law unless and until he causes an accident serious enough to warrant police involvement, at which point - assuming he is licensed and insured - he might get points on his license, a fine, a ban or even imprisonment depending on how badly hurt somebody gets. Having been thus punished, he might drive more carefully, but seeing how badly everybody else drives, and recalling that he got away with it for years, he might carry on just as he did before, until the next time he injures or kills someone.
I've refused to budge for idiots coming the wrong way down Seymour. I will get killed one day. Dragged out of my car and beaten to death. How will the police feel then? Hah.
I'm serious.
It is not a criminal offence to let the air out of tyres.
Go check it out.
