Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Petition organised by The Independent; Theresa May MP: Give People a Final Say on Brexit Deal

This petition is getting support from both sides of the Brexit argument. 170,000 people have signed the petition during the first day so, it's going to be big;

Now over 1/2 a million have signed this petition

This petition is a meaningless waste of time.

The population of the UK is 65.64 million people. So far, nearly all of them have not signed this unpopular petition so this petition must be ignored. 65.15 million people have not signed it. OK?

So is watching tv but we all do it.

Brexit is happening so why are you so worried?. It's the rest of us who are worried!

Neil, you could move to the Midwest or the Australian outback, where you could be happy for the rest of your days. You really don't sound like a happy chappy at the moment Neil, living in the interconnected modern world.

I'm very happy living in the best country in the world with a wonderful summer to enjoy.

I'm also very happy because life outside of the EU is going to be so much better after we leave. Joy!

We are going to thrive financially, artistically and socially while the failing EU falls apart as other countries leave. Hungary, Poland and Italy are all keen to escape the unaccountable bureaucracy of Brussels.

And you think our government's accountable and not a bureaucracy? Don't make me laugh.

Neil, that's all just speculation.

What you mean is you hope, or you trust, that our new world is going to be wonderful.

my future is going to be poorer.

I'm a sole trader and have not had one inquiry from Europe since 2016. Funny that.

Now we have stuck two fingers up at our neighbours and told them we don't want them working over here what do you think my chances are of being able to pitch for and travel to work in Europe?

where is the politician saying that my government is going to defend my right of freedom of movement to work?

you and yours had better get a wriggle on and sort a really really cheap food deal with the American farmers cos much more of this and I'm not going to be able afford to shop where you do.

but as you say - it's going to be a bright new future for you. So I'm pleased for you.

I hope you get everything you voted for.

Is there any obligation for the government to consider petitions via change.org as opposed to the ones on the gov.uk website (where you have to click a link in your email to confirm you want to sign)? Those government ones clearly say that after 100,000 signatures it will be considered for debate by MPs. Will a change.org one have the same effect?

Thought about this exact point today as well (well, yesterday. Now 00:33). A gov petition would have been better. But 38 degrees (the other regular petition website) says it's team gets invited to talks with organisations they target so I don't think it matters too much where a petition is logged.

Now @ 600,000

You’ve still got 32.4 million signatures to get before you have a majority of the 65.6 million population of the U.K.  Then you will be taken seriously.

i like your logic.

so you're saying that unless there's a mandate of at least 33 million, the vote shouldn't be taken seriously?

great! that means we can all laugh at the 17,410,742 who voted to leave the eu, ignore the referendum and get on with the real world.

what a relief!

i wonder if we might also ignore the 13,636,684 who voted for the current government?
