Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Residents living in flats above shops who don't have their own recycling wheelie bin instead get provided with green recycling sacks which get delivered through the door on a regular basis.

Well, it appears that this is no longer the case. The recycling page on the Haringey website now says:

"Residents who live in flats above shops can get a free roll of green recycling sacks by visiting a local library with their proof of address."

Just one free roll, and you have to go to a library for it. How many people are not going to bother recycling as a result of this, or put their recycling in the wrong coloured bag so it doesn't get picked up? Another cut in waste managment services that will just result in making the problem worse, not better...

Update: it appears that if you email the Veolia enquires email address, they will still deliver sacks to you - but why isn't this mentioned on the website like it used to be? So many people will be put off by having to go to a library.

I will ask Veolia to update the website.

I have had them delivered to me for years (Wood Green) as my house doesn't have space in front for a bin, thank goodness. What blights on the landscape they are.

The problem is that Combined Heat & Power plants, like the colossal NLWA proposal at Edmonton (700,000 tons pa) require a good level of calorific value in their feedstock (ie things which contain carbon) to meet any targets for energy production. If all the recyclables were removed as they should be, power output would fall.

There have been reports of CHP projects failing for this reason, as well as of recycling's having to be diverted to incineration to bolster output.

Incidentally, 700/- tons is anyway far greater than the total of black bag waste produced in the 7 member councils, and NLWA anticipates importing waste from much further afield.

Recent TV Report's have stated that much of so called Plastic Recycles are ending up being Burnt or Buried. As being refused by recycling processors.

Edmonton also takes in Trade Skips from commercial companies.                                                        As well as 7 Boroughs. Who I am sure are producing more waste as there population grows weekly

One of the Biggest issues in Haringey. is that it does not have enough Officers to sort out Haringey's growing multi Occupancy properties.                                                                                                                        Unless registered Correctly they will not be issued with the Right number of Waste and Recycling Bins
