Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Parking on pavement by St. Mary Catholic primary n15 parents
Sorry I realise this is an old chestnut, but I am genuinely at a loss as to what else to do other than to publicly shame the school and their extremely selfish parents.
Daily at drop off and collection, the parents park on the pavement, both outside the school, and on nearby Templeton road. This is despite an abundance of available safe parking spaces under 50m away in cpz spaces, pay and display bays, and even a free car park.
When challenged, and asked not to block the footway, the parents are very aggressive.
I have contacted the school regarding this, and they have refused to take any action, or meet to discuss the situation. The receptionists even threatened me, should I call them again to raise this issue as it is 'nothing to do with them'. This is despite the safety issues for the children at the school, as well as local children. This is due to children having to walk on a busy road around cars parked on the pavement, and the schools emergency access regularly being obstructed.
I have contacted the council regarding this (both parking and local councillor), and nothing has changed. I also have contacted the local police, but it is not a police issue.
If anything the issue is just getting worse.
Below are a couple of examples.
Any suggestions on how to remedy this is welcome, or perhaps the school would like to pull their finger out and do something...
No doubt I will have replies from parents at the school, saying that locals should put up and shut up, despite the obvious safety issues

It's time to turn to violence. The police won't be interested if you just hit the drivers but don't touch their cars.

We have similar problems at the Black Boy Lane end of Etherly Road, next to Chestnuts School. Parents park over the top of double yellow lines half or fully on the pavement. In the 10 years I've been walking my children there I have seen quite a few near misses. Cars zooming round the corner, up onto the pavement and doors being flung open.
The school and council have tried a few things, we managed to get traffic wardens round for a couple of mornings but they got so much abuse from the parking parents that they never came back. The school has put up signs asking parents to park elsewhere and mentioned it in many newsletters. But it hasn't stopped the dangerous parking.
Having said all that the catchment has become smaller so fewer people drive now.
One thing I have noticed that seem to work are temporary bollards (similar to the 'watch out wet floor' bollards in supermarkets) that schools put over double yellow or zig zag lines or anywhere that is unsafe to park near school, just at drop off an pick up times.

It is single yellow/double yellow on this stretch of pavement here, but that isn't particularly relevant as it is illegal to park on the pavement anywhere in London, unless it is a designated parking bay.
My daughter goes to a school in haringay and I have never seen parents parking on the pavement around the school. A fair few drive, but manage to park safely. I never noticed the bad parking when my daughter went to Chestnuts nursery, but that was a few years ago.
Temporary bollands are a good idea, but the school isn't willing to do this as it is not directly outside the school. Permanent bollards on the pavement would be ideal.

It's double yellows but yes illegal either way.
It's the road that goes down the side of Chestnuts school, next to the swimming pool and it's every morning and every pick up. They don't stop there for very long only 5 or 10 minutes but obviously at a time when lots of children and parents try to walk past.
Thankfully I don't think anyone has been hurt but I have seen a fair few near misses, and times when cars have parked fully on the pavement we have had to walk in the road to get round them.

I understand your frustration completely. That's the road where the nursery is situated so I walked there a lot at drop off and pick up times, but it was a few years ago, perhaps it's more of a recent phenomenon.
There are so many available cpz spaces that I really don't understand the motivation.

Yes, but the proposed changes just involved getting rid of the pavement on one side of hermitage road under the narrow road by the bridge. This obviously isn't ideal when cars park on the pavement!
I'm not sure what the final outcome of the consultation is, and what changes will actually be done.

And it goes on. Today while walking on the pavement a car reversed onto it without looking, nearly hitting me. I asked the driver politely if he had seen me, and he told me to '''shut up otherwise he would do my head in".
The school really needs to take note about how dangerous this is. If a driver is reversing onto adults on the pavement, then he could easily hit a smaller and less visible child.
Any comment from the school?
