Finsbury Park festivals
Hello.
Did you all get the what’s on Finsbury Park booklet throigh
the door at the weekend ?
I am confused ,
on the back page there was a diary of events for the coming year
It stated above that agreed by residents (I have no memory of being asked ) it is allowed to have up to 5 large festival events with up to 30K attending a year
then goes on to tel us of several events of which at least 6/7 seem to be full on festivals going on this year ?
I am not sure and wondered if anyone else has noticed the same ?
This bothers me for many reasons as Finsbury Park is at the end ofour Road and not wanting
to be a total fun sponge massive events Like Wireless In my opinion really should be in a field in the middle of nowhere , the noise being the least of the problems , not being able to get out of
our Road or park and traffic, and having young kids, hearing the artists swearing over the mike all over the Haringay skies isn’t my favourite bit .
It Seems the boundaries are being stretched more and more every year .
Are they going too far now ?
What are other people’s thoughts on the amount it’s beomg used ?

It is NOT a massive over-reaction. I live a mile away and I get headaches from the Finsbury Park events. I hate to think what it would be like if I lived any closer.

oh come on DTW, no one is asking for 365 peace, that's why they live in zone 2. it's about having festivals at the end of your garden from May to October and the resulting shite that goes with it. I don't think anyone has said the use of the park as a music venue has to stop. from what I have read is that people want a little less of it, that's all. DTW why are you so upset about people's views on this, and how close to the park do you live?

It’s really just wirelsss that people complain about. After all how many of those festivals get up to that level of volume.
but for me the fact that the people who enjoy these events arent mentioned by those complaining about noise during day light hours apart from 2 in the evening is the really disappointing part.
To those complaining the enjoyment by those attending is given zero counter weight. As you yourself might say - SAD!

this money just brings additional funds into the parks service. My understanding is that It doesn't make a shred of difference to any other services budgets other than the Parks Service. Budgets of other services are neither increased or decreased as a result including the parks service, see it as being paid overtime.

@DTW. sorry I couldn't respond to your post directly, all the reply boxes are taken. I really don't think anyone is solely complaining about wireless. the OP mentioned 6 to 7 festivals.
I for one am glad that people are enjoying themselves, but I also feel sorry for those who don't, particularly the pupils and staff of Stroud Green Primary school who get loads of crap thrown in the playground, have to endure a piss barrier blanketing the school for weeks on end and have thier learning interrupted by the noise. I also feel sorry for those residents of islington and Hackney who bear the brunt of the noise, and as well as those Haringey residents who live next to the park.
I genuinely think that there needs to be a little more understanding on both sides and perhaps a little bit of compromise. that fact there isn't is sad...

Of course disruption needs to be minimised where possible. But last years Wireless was much improved. I’ve no doubt that lessons learned from last year will also be applied.
as for compromise - launching a failed high court bid is hardly in that spirit. Not adequately publishing your minutes is not in that spirit. Not sticking to the original remit of your organisations parameters is hardly in that spirit.

Last years Wireless was the one that I recorded, late at night when young children would be trying to sleep. It was also the one that drowned out the sound of a passing train. As for the "associated percussion" (I believe that was how it was described in the info that was supplied to residents ) that turned out to be a firework show that they were not licensed for.

It’s a fair point it’s nithing to do with you. But that’s the reality of who are the main complainers. An undemocratic, clandestine, NIMBY driven vocal minority who prioritise their own whims amongst the enjoyment of 10,000s young local young adults and teenagers.

hmm, I'm not sure you are including all the residents and park users who aren't part of the friends of Finsbury Park and probably have never heard of them but are equally pissed off. I'm convinced there are a lot more than you think. I'm also sure those tens of thousands of young (and young at heart) people you mentioned wouldn't mind where in London the festivals were held.

The school is at the front of my home, the park and festival site are at the back.

I moved from Arsenal to just off green lanes, so experienced living in close proximity to the park first hand. I fully agree with those that say Wireless and other festivals are disruptive to the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of both the park and their neighbourhood.
That said, most large parks have similar events, Clapham common, Victoria Park, Hyde Park and others I will have missed. Space is at a premium and people want to have fun at outdoor live music events. It is almost inevitable that Finsbury park will get utilised as an asset.
