Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello.

Did you all get the what’s on Finsbury Park booklet throigh

the door at the weekend ?

I am confused ,

on the back page there was a diary of events for the coming year

It stated above that agreed by residents (I have no memory of being asked ) it is allowed to have up to 5 large festival events with up to 30K attending  a year

then goes on to tel us of several events of which at least 6/7 seem to be full on festivals going on this year ?

I am not sure and wondered if anyone else has noticed the same ?

This bothers me for many reasons as Finsbury Park is at the end ofour Road and not wanting

to be a total fun sponge massive events Like Wireless In my opinion really should be in a field in the middle of nowhere , the noise being the least of the problems , not being able to get out of

our Road or park and traffic, and having young kids, hearing the artists swearing over the mike all over the Haringay skies isn’t my favourite bit .

It Seems the boundaries are being stretched more and more every year .

Are they going too far now ?

What are other people’s thoughts on the amount it’s beomg used ?

Thanks

DTW the vast majority, if not all the money goes into the Parks Service. I would be far happier if it went into adults and children'  services helping the most vulnerable.

But that parks service would have to be funded without the events. It still helps the overall pot

Did either of you read Madeline's reply above? Her link suggests that in future the revenue may only be available for Finsbury Park. If that's the case, one has to wonder if the number of events will tail off.

I doubt they will tail off as so much money is generated. it might mean more parks are used for festivals?

do you think so Hugh ? I’m not convinced I don’t think Haringay will ever turn down money.

But why should they? And why should the people who enjoy these events not be able to enjoy them?

If people want to live in 365 peace and quiet then zone 2 London is not for them!

But would they enjoy them so much if they were at the end of their road ? All through the summer ? I don’t want peace and quiet , I was born in the house we live in and I am fairly hardy But think they are doing too many now .

It's right behind my house. OK, I have the railway line in between, it's something you get used to, but last year I recorded a video where the 'music' drowned out the sound of a train going past that was only about 150 yards away from where I stood and was between me and the 'concert'.

I'm not making any judgments about what should happen. I'm just musing that perhaps if there's no longer a financial imperative to hold the same number of events in Finsbury Park, the new administration may find it politically expedient not to continue with the current arrangements in future years (although I seem to remember that they made a multi-year contract with Slammin' who run the Wireless event).

When I moved here 40+ years ago, apart from the usual town noises we weren't subjected to loud music booming out from the park for most of the summer weekends nor the associated closures and crowds. And before you suggest that I should move, I'm not in a position to do so and besides, it seems unfair that I should be driven from my home because of this.

Exactly Madeline it’s all very easy saying move or go away for the weekend but not very practical in reality .And why should we be driven out of our homes we have had all our lives .

Is this really something that will drive you out your home?  Seems like a massive over reaction.

fortunately those that do seem concerned by events like Wireless are in a very substantial minority
