Help needed! Cleaner has spilled something and stained the carpet
Hi all - It would be really great to get some advice from this group. My cleaner has spilled some water which, as we were away for the weekend, wasn't cleaned up properly. It has now left a stain that I have been advised from cleaning firms they can't get out.
My cleaner is insisting that they must be allowed to appoint a firm to dye the carpet to 'make it right' but I'm not happy with this as it is a pure wool carpet.
Has anyone had any experience with dying a carpet to get the stain out? Alternatively, does anyone know how I can get the damaged fixed - I'm feeling like I'm running into a brick wall!?

I don't want to have to pay the excess and higher premiums as I didn't cause the damage

No you didn't of course but, who is going to pay if you don't use your insurance? If you pay your cleaner above minimum wage you can try to bill them for it but no more than the difference between what they earn in a year and what they would earn on minimum wage.
I really think that you're stuck as the cleaner would rather just drop you as a client and go with someone else rather than pay for new carpets. Also, I don't think it's fair for you to bill the cleaner any more than your excess.

Shouldn't the cleaner's insurance company pay? I checked they had insurance in place before I took the company on (its not an individual).
Not sure about the rule you are referring to about limiting the damage to the amount they earn? I was assured at the time that their insurance went up to £0.5m damage. Could you give me some more info on this rule please as I think it will be important.

It's called the "minimum wage law" and it applies to employers. It covers your cleaner to make sure that the state does not have to pick up the tab for her mistake.

Yes but its a company with insurance rather than an individual so not sure this applies

The company has offered to try and fix it, according to the post. This seems perfectly reasonable as a first step.

Sounds strange that a cleaning company can’t get the stain out. Have you tried a specialist company that for wool carpets or a good carpet shop that could advise?

We went to the carpet shop where we bought the carpet who recommended the cleaner. They said there would be a permanent stain

Dam. I would claim off their insurance and get new carpets. Get them to sort it all out. Yes it’s a pain but it sounds like you a, live with the stain or b new carpets
