Murder Investigation Launched after Body Found in Finsbury Park

Following the discovery of a body at the edge of the old cricket pitch in Finsbury Park, the Metropolitan Police have concluded that a person died in suspicious circumstances and have launched a murder inquiry.

The police believe that the young woman who was found died on Christmas Eve. The body was relatively well hidden by the old equipment hut so it remained hidden until today.

While the surrounding 'scene' is  searched for any possible evidence, the whole American Gardens section of the park is closed including the Endymion Road entrance along with the one next to the old cricket pitch on Green Lanes.

There is low-level bollard style lighting along some paths, but not many.

Thanks Bethany. The path in question running between the New River & the sports field looks totally unlit. Either the council locks this path off at dusk at the bridge & Green Lanes entrance or it provides lighting. For the first option they will need to provide gates at the bridge as there are none. Either way investment will be necessary.

Agreed, I cycled once through the park after dark to avoid slowly chugging up seven sisters road (yes I'm one of those cyclists..) and will never do it again. There were people wearing fully reflective jackets but without any bike gear who looked like they were selling drugs to each other, there was a car on the road near the basketball courts with hazard lights on, all doors open but no one near it, everything was pitch black, and I couldn't cycle out of there fast enough. If people are using the park for organised activities then they and everyone else should be given the security of decent lighting.

Blimey, sounds pretty damn scary. Thanks for the description. Will pass this on.

Hello all, as an SNT we appreciate how concerned you are after Iuliana's tragic death but we'd like to reassure everyone that incidents like this are incredibly rare.

My colleagues are working tirelessly on the case, but in the meantime please exercise a little extra caution and try and avoid Finsbury Park after dark if you can.

Finsbury Park Murder Arrest
Metropolitan Police - Jan 01, 2018 14:58 GMT

Detectives investigating the murder of Iuliana Tudos in Finsbury Park have made an arrest.

The 31-year-old man was arrested at around 13:30hrs on Monday, 1 January, at an address in Dalston.

He was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Iuliana Tudos

The man has been taken to a south-west London police station where he remains in custody.

A murder investigation, led by DCI Nicola Wall, was launched after Iuliana's body was found by a member of the public at 16:25hrs on Wednesday, 27 December.

The body of the 22-year-old, who was also known as Julia and Lili (short for Lilith), was found in a disused building located in the north eastern area of the park. Iuliana lived in Upper Tollington Park, Haringey.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and Iuliana was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin, who are currently living abroad, have been informed.

A post-mortem examination took place at Haringey Mortuary on Thursday, 28 December, and gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the abdomen and a head injury. Further tests are ongoing.

Haringey Borough Commander Detective Chief Superintendent Des Fahy said that extra officers had been deployed for reassurance and that his officers had been engaging with local residents, community groups and traders.

He said: "We understand that the local community might have concerns, but I want to reassure people that incidents of this nature are incredibly rare.

"We have police out and about on patrol and local Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been out speaking to members of the community.

"By all accounts, Iuliana was a bubbly lively girl enjoying a fun life in London when she was tragically taken from her loved ones. Our hearts go out to them. "

someone’s been arrested ...

Thank goodness they've arrested someone

"A drive to raise £4,000 to help Ms Tudos's family cover the cost of the funeral has led to more than £16,400 in donations." - that's nice, perhaps there's some left over to cover the funerals of those boys who were stabbed too, a shame they're obviously not as photogenic.

I wasn't attacking the family, I was attacking the media.

I wish I knew who you were, you're a bit stalky and scary.

The fact that it looks like a stranger murder does scare me. I frequently run in the area in the dark and thought statistics were on my side when it came to safety. I will definitely be more careful now, even though they have caught someone. I'll keep an eye out in the news for more details. Poor girl.
