If you are a member of a trade union it is worth looking at their will writing service for members, provided by reputable solicitors.
We used Bartletts Solicitors just across from Ducketts Common - I can't remember the price for two simple wills but it was what I expected - prob around the £100 each mark which I seem to remember paying once before. They will do an estiamte for you if you call.
They were very helpful and pleasant and it was a fairly painless process, which is good because I had to drag my other half there against his will (he used to think that standing in the street saying 'I leave it all to you' was legally binding!)

There is a great scheme on at the moment called Will Aid - you get a solicitor drafted will and instead of paying them, make a donation to charity instead. Here is there website - www.willaid.org.uk - i imagine there will be local participants.
