Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We have a spider that has been living in our bathroom for months. I have decorators coming on Monday. I could move the spider to the spare room but am worried it will go back home before the decorators have finished. Will it survive if I put it in a box for a few days?

He appears to be legless
Sam R , have you put a filter on that shot or something, as the colour of that spider looks just a little weird! :)
It’s from my Instagram feed so probably.
Thanks JJB, a very impressive spider. From your link;

... dedicated!!

'Females protect their eggs by building a silk egg sac, which they lay their eggs in. Once filled with eggs a female will not leave the sac, she will spend her life protecting it and she will eventually die in late autumn before her spiderlings hatch in the following May.'

... and I believe I have seen this a couple of times, an amazing sight;

'Next May a mass of young spiderlings each with yellow abdomen and a dark patch will hatch out of the egg sac. Once hatched they collect together into a bright yellow bundle of tiny spiders and if disturbed they will wildly scatter, only reassembling when the danger has moved on.'

Mine are in a mobile crèche:-

Ha ...loud!

Well I've learned something about house spiders having looked around the web after reading Anka's comment (No pun intended).

It seems that most informed opinion says that the majority of the spiders in our houses have evolved to live indoors and won't survive outside. However it appears that some outdoors types will also find their way in and would appreciate going back outside. The trouble is knowing which is which.

I'm in two minds about house spiders. I don't mind seeing one or two, but I don't like it when they cast too many webs.

I love our house spiders. Think of all the unwanted bugs and beasties that they catch in the house. Clothes moths etc.

Yes I understand the good they do and I like the idea of welcoming creatures, but despite that I have to admit to not being 100% sold on celebrating having them in the house.

Dahdah!!

Does a spider in a box sing as sweetly as a spider who is free?
