Saw this. What nonsense! “Only go to houses where you or your friends know the residents”? Let’s face it, since most of us will only know (at best) our immediate neighbours that would rule out half the street! As for not talking to strangers on the street - I thought we were now discouraging irrational paranoia?

Well, I have to admit that is the one that I am most likely to ignore too... my rule is 'if there's a pumpkin, we can knock!' although again to be fair if you have children you will probably know a lot more people on the Ladder than just your immediate neighbours. When my children were very small we only ever needed to go to the people we knew all the way down the Ladder as there were so darn many of them. Either way we had a good old time this evening.

Plenty of advice for the trick-or-treaters.  Where is the advice not to open your door to strangers?

Ah well, I imagine that would be standard crime-prevention advice/common sense and not specific to Halloween and this was specifically aimed at those leaving their houses to go trick and treating. Plus one would hope that children would have been taught by their parents never to open the door to strangers on their own (and not just on 31st October).
