Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay Studio Makes One of Britain's first Full-Colour Cartoons

At their Harringay studio, American, George Moreno editor Harold Mack of British Animated Productions, produced some shorts featuring a London taxi driver and his car. Entitled Bubble & Squeak, the series lasted five episodes.

Mr. Bubble is a geeky taxi driver, and Squeak is his sentient car. They get into various silly adventures together.

This clip shows them making one of the shorts and includes some footage of one of their cartoons.

Quite apart from the charm of this film clip, I was thrilled to learn another interesting little snippet about Harringay's past.

britanimation, wow, stunned that the fame of this clip has spread.

It's working okay for me. Have you tried a different browser?

In answer to britanimations's query. I have looked at the 1949 edition of the Kinematiograph Year Book, and the address of British Animated Productons is given as Hawker House, Portland Gardens, N4. In the 1950 Yearbook, they had moved to 114 Packington Street, Islington. They don't appear in the 1951 yearbook.

Hope this is of interest, Best regards Jeremy.

It's taken me four years to catch up with your response Jeremy - but thanks for that. I guess that means they must have been based in what today is the Kurdish Community Centre.

Thanks also Britanimation for the interesting background.
