That's what I hear from my bedroom at around four in the morning. How many birds did you count this time?

Because I was leading the walk this year I wasn’t keeping a running total but as well as the usual suspects of Robin, Blackbird and Wren, the Song Thrush was on fine form and the Chiff Chaff. Our Blackcaps were also busy as well as the Great Tit and Blue Tit. The nesting Coot joined in from the river and of course the Wood Pigeons were awake. I think someone also told me they had heard the Greater Spotted Woodpecker drumming.  At that point though, I was brewing up tea for everyone!

We changed the focus slightly this year too. We encouraged people to explore alone with their trusty Merlin app and to consider the way the Dawn Chorus unfolds in the way a piece of music does.

Hi. When is the next Dawn Chorus event?
Comment by Liz yesterday

We only do this once a year - usually sometime around the end of April/beginning of May. International Dawn Chorus Day is the first Sunday in May every year and so we usually do something around that date depending on volunteer availability.

Thanks for the reply. That's a shame, I'll put the date in next year's diary
