Amazing rare footage of Ally Pally's switchback railway. Made by north London film pioneer R.W. Paul in 1898. In the background, you can see Blandford Hall (known at this time as simply the Banqueting Hall). See a still image of the building here.
The music was composed by Year 10 GCSE Music students from The Henrietta Barnett School in London, NW1 in a project with the Phoenix Cinema Trust.

Fascinating. When I watched this, there was also a prompt for footage of a steam-hauled journey from North Woolwich to Palace Gates, on the now long-defunct branch that used to go via West Green and Wood Green: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27259L4WT-o&feature=emb_rel_end
There's a new book about R. Paul - "Robert Paul and the Origins of British Cinema" written by Prof. Ian Christie, renowned early film expert who lives locally.
