Beautiful and atmospheric - I can feel the history.

We used to run our "jiggers" and bikes down here..........great fun, 50s/60s.   My older brother's "jigger" came to a sudden halt with that lamp post on the right,  outside the church hall I think it was.  I attended cubs in that hall I believe and years later met my wife to be there at some sort of social do in late 60s.

Wonderful memories! Was a jigger a go-cart?

I recall that the further down Green Lanes towards N4, the steeper were the hills on the ladder roads. I used to use Allison as a great ‘run’ on roller skates. It felt, to my 10 year old self, like a downhill ski run.

Lydia........just come across your comment.  Yes, a "jigger" was like a go-cart.  No idea where the word originated from but we only knew them as "jiggers".

And yes, Allison was by far the steepest road.   In my time growing up in Harringay, 1950 - 70, all the roads running down from Wightman to Green lanes were simply referred to as "The Hills".   "Ladder" sounds a bit more upmarket dunt it !

I was born in Harringay Road.
