Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I think this was taken from where Ridge and Mountview Roads now are, then known as the Hog's Back. Had the photographer swung to the right he'd have had Harringay in his sights.

Spectacular. What's particularly nice to think on is how much of this image, if taken today, would still be green. Certainly the majority of the horizon; the portion around Hornsey Parish Church (is that it on the right?) and Priory Park. Not quite the same, granted, but progress and urban sprawl could have done far worse...

Taken from Shepherds Hill, I think. The houses on the right are in Priory Road. I have the same view taken 15 years earlier, with no sign of any terraced housing.

I take it you've seen the ones taken in the other direction some thirty years earlier?

Trevor, you may well be right. Thanks for that suggestion.

Hugh: I have a lot of local views of this period, and other material too - but no time to scan them. Let me know if you would like to borrow the collection.

Thanks to Malcolm Hunt who has sent me the picture below. This is a view from the top of his building on Shepherd's Hill. As he points out, it makes a convincing case for Trevor's suggestion from 2010, that the photo was taken from Shepherd's Hill.

(PS: Trevor - still interested in your photos......)

The title's fine, but you might be right about the description. Looking at it closely, it does look like it may have been taken fr0om further west than the Hog's Back.

For comparison, here's Google Street View from the top of Ferme Park Road (which matches very well at a quick glance)

And, below is the bird's eye view from Shepherd's Hill, by the junction wit Coolhurst. It's probably a better match the than the Ferm Park one.
