Hugh thank you so much for uploading this marvellous collection of photos of our Charity's principal asset.
The 1873 original building on the site - that burnt down after only 16 days - must have been a sight to behold. It was significantly taller than its replacement that – amazingly – took only two further years to rebuild.
The 1980 fire consumed all but the historically vital east wing. The local council took responsibility for the rebuild which managed to both overspend and under build - what we've got is something of a pastiche.
Each rebuild after each fire left a structure less impressive than the one before.
Last week it was announced that well known architects Terry Farrell & Partners will oversee master planning for the regeneration of our building. We must wish them luck.
What a wonderful collection of photographs and thank you for sharing them with us.
