Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

AEC Merlin MBS51 working on route W5 turns into the bus station at Turnpike Lane.
This W5 route operated on Saturdays only from Finsbury Park Station over the W3 to Wood Green then along the High Road to Turnpike Lane Station. It was introduced with the Wood Green Satellite Bus system in September 1968, replacing route 233. It wasn't a success, mainly due to the congestion caused by the overbussing of Wood Green High Road and was withdrawn in March 1969. It has no connection to today's W5 route.

Turnpike Lane Station was a meeting point for North London's bus spotters. Especially in late 1968, when London Transport's Bus Reshaping Plan (introduction of conductorless one person operated vehicles) started taking place.
