Interesting link Stephen and to see Harringay was a trial area. Most interesting is this quote;

Metropolitan Police making 100 constables available to police the schemes and "educate" the public on how to behave, with loudhailers if necessary.

It seems successive British governments and bureaucrats have been obsessed with controlling their subjects using latest technologies. No different today with street cameras, ID cards, central databases of all our children, DNA records of all arrested ....

Both Chris and I have mentioned before, that we remember the police turning up at school to 'educate us'... and how much the the kids enjoyed 'stopping the traffic' - a new idea at that time..

Stephen:
You are exactly correct I did take the picture on a Sunday. Did the lack of traffic on Green Lanes give it away.

No problem Les.  Use to shop in Carsons a fair bit.  One Saturday morning Helen Shapiro walked in (she had big hit around that time) turned out David Carson was her uncle.  Had some decent stuff in there.  I'll look for your comment in 3 years time !!!

I lived in Roseberry Gardens on the corner where yes indeed Barbara Windsor also lived. I used to admire the posh cars that used to pick her and Ronnie Knight up, She was a very friendly lady.
