Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Today, this spot is a nice place to start a walk or take a cup of tea. The building on the right of the picture was a pub at he time this picture was taken. Today, its a cafe. The buildings on the left are long gone. A bridge, marked on the contemporary OS map as "High Bridge" is still there, but is a little more substantial.

This picture of Springhill with the building that is now a Cafe was in past times Tyrells Boat house and used as clubhouse for several Rowing clubs one of which was the Excel R.C founded in 1927 and ceased 1959.

My brother Reginald Louis Raven was a member of this R.C rowing with them from 1936 until they ceased in 1959 the clubs big achievement happened in 1939 when they won the Championship eights aka "The Desborough Cup" against  an Oxford crew on the Isis river. As can be seen from the  accompanying map the area is used by the Lea R.C which is an amalgamation of  several clubs that have a history on the River Lea at this point.
