I agree with Don and would add that the way I was taught to ride in Lordship Park would be totally unsuitable - even dangerous - on today's roads.

I so remember this as a very young child. Do I remember an outdoor swimming area, a lido nearby? This would have been early to mid '60s.

I don't remember a swimming pool though I went in the 40s and early 50s so perhaps it came later.  When my mum took us swimming it was to North Finchley, a bus ride away.

Just Googled Tottenham Lido, that was in Lordship Lane on Broadwater Farm. That disappeared in the '80s. I think that is what I was thinking about.

The traffic lights are there, but kept safe until needed for events. There is a bike workshop place also, by the lordship Lane gates, but not sure about renting arrangements..

I was first taken there just before the war. Lovely experience. Later, by the time I could get there under my own steam, I was disappointed to find that I had outgrown it.

I recall, during the early 1960s that, in addition to the wonderful cycling adventure, a terrace of shallow paddling pools....toddlers and ( mainly) mothers in narrow waisted flared floral print skirts was crowded every sizzling day. Days were warmer and longer then.

Looking back at that photo I cannot recall "cars" being used on the circuit, only bikes, in my time there in the 50's.  But great fun it was.

It has probably been mentioned before on this site but there is a film of the opening ceremony in 1938:
