I posted another image with this tower some years ago. I still haven't found out waht it was doing there. Does anyone know the story?

C'est Magnifique!
Isn’t there a tv station on one side of ally pally? Possible this was the old mast?
I tried to find out what this was for a year or two back but without success.
Certainly there all sorts of extravaganzas at Ally Pally in the old days - fireworks, son et lumieres, people going up in airships, people jumping down from airships, themed international villages, etc etc.
This tower is on the island, so any visiting would be by boat (unless there was a related causeway created temporarily, that has not yet shown up in old pics), so maybe it wasn't for mass public access. Anyway, although it has first and second stage decks and one at the top, there doesn't appear to be any stairway for routine clambering up. Looking at various old images, at least one indicates a myriad of small nobbly bits all up the four corners and I'm guessing these were lights powered by that newfangled electricity stuff and therefore quite a stunning novelty for the assembled throng. Below is a view from another angle. On the right is an airship shed.
Suggest anchorage for the 1905 airship had the 'experiment' been successful.
THANK YOUI!!! John
I thought I'd looked at the museum site in my search for revealed truth. I even asked that or a similar site.
They must have added it in the couple of years since then. That's my excuse anyway ;-)
