Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Hornsey Toll gate was established and tolls levied from 1739, but the gate itself wasn't operational unti 1765. It was demolished shortly after the turnpike system was abolished in 1872. I posted a photo of the old toll booth at that point some ten years ago.

Another of our nearby toll gates was the one at Archway.

The Swiss artist was Michael Vincent Brandoin (1733 - 1807). The image is in the collection of the Huntington Library.
