I've done a quick search on this and the earliest mention I can find is of George Arthur Grimes, Cheesemonger in Kelly's Directory of 1894.

By 1898, he has become a grocer and provisions merchant, and during the 1920s, a spirits and wine dealer.  The last mention is in the 1926 directory and the phone book.

Sorry Hugh, didn't find one in there and don't plan on installing one. Will be using the unit as on office for my home inspections business.

I live in the Ground Floor Flat number 30 Wightman Road. I have no ideas what the place used to be before it was converted into a flat. It would be really interesting to know. One of the walls also has the really strange hooks coming from it which I can only imagine are something to with what was there before. Any ideas how I could find out??

Michael and his Kelly's Directory for 1935 might start you off on the right direction. Somewhere like the British Library or even a local one might have directories for other years. You could contact Bruce Castle and ask if they can make any suggestions.
