Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

1905 saw a Nelson Ball held at the Palace and a full sized replica of Nelson’s Column was brought into the Great Hall. Evidently this balloon was part of the proceedings at some point. (I'm assuming that Nelson's Day is what we today refer to as Trafalgar Day, celebrated apparently on 21st October. In fact I suspect that the photo publisher has conflated the Nelson Centenary of 1905 and Trafalgar Day.).

There is an almost phallic-worshiping quality about these events, which took place at the very height of Britain's naval power under Admiral Jackie Fisher. "Look - we've got a bigger one than you lot!"

Was the ballon tethers to the iron anchor that is still near the mini golf course at Ally Pally?
