Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay Green Lanes Station June 1952

When it was named Harringay Park, just before it was renamed Harringay Stadium. (Yes this station's had many names!).

Oh dear, I know I'm a nuisance on these things.... But I think the photo was taken a little later than 1952. Do you have confirmation? As far as I know, the original wooden station platforms and buildings weren't replaced until at least the middle of the 1950s.

My first memories of the station are from ca. 1958 and I remember feeling proud that we had such a "modern station". The was also an exit at the east end of the platforms, which gave direct access into the stadium and was only open on "dog nights".

The station was opened as Green Lanes on 01/06.1880.
It was re-named Harringay Park, Green Lanes in 1883;
Harringay Park 18/06.1951;
Harringay Stadium 27/10.1958;
Harringay East 12/05.1990;
Harringay Green Lanes 08/07.1991

This line was one of the main "Cross London" freight arteries, with constant movements of freight traffic between Temple Mills Freight Depot (Stratford, now Olympic & CCR site) and Willesden Junction, all day and night, everyday. The locomotive is a London Midland Region 0-6-0T (saddle)tank engine built for the LMS in 1924.

I nearly forgot to mention. There was a also a Railway Goods Depot on the west side of Green Lanes opposite the station. This was in use from 01/06.1880 until 03/02.1964.

And that depot would now be "Railway fields". Right?
