Next I heard a commotion caused by a cyclist coming down the outside of the traffic and ridng into the buggy. Mother had pushed the buggy out suddenly without looking. Luckily the cyclist managed to hit the brakes enough for there not to be a serious accident. All parties expressed shock, the cyclist a brief burst of anger as well, then all parties were on their way. All this was over in seconds but it might have been different. that, although Tree Preservation orders were in place, incorrect information was relayed both to BDC and the tree surgeons. Record-keeping procedures etc are now being thoroughly overhauled. Meanwhile, the new owners of the land are consulting with LBH tree officers with a view to planting new large-growing trees, such as ash or London plane.
So does this mean that the Council said it was okay to chop the trees down??! Unbelievable. I look forward to seeing what trees they will plant to replace them. What a ridiculous way to lose some very lovely and very old trees.…

In the latter cases, I would simply do it myself or employ a tree surgeon.
However, from a friend's experiences elsewhere in Haringey, I gathered that where the tree is in the street (and therefore the council's responsibility), the council can be liable for damage to your house. I heard that their liability does not begin until they are informed (by registered post) that you suspect one of their trees. This is not a straight forward matter because of the possible need to involve your insurance company or expert opinion.…
