Despite my interest in local heritage/history issues, the BBC's useful
Saving Britain's Past series has rather passed my by. I stumbled across it on iPlayer just recently and have watched one episode.
So whilst I'm unable to comment on the whole series, if that one episode is anything to judge by, it's worth giving over some time to if you've an interest in this sort of thing.
The Street was for me a fascinating half hour. Skipping lightly over Brick Lane's history, it focuses on the recent and present issues around handling heritage in a diverse area. Of course Brick Lane isn't Green Lanes, but the similarities and differences are fascinating, including how the local council influences development.
Worth a look in.
The Beeb have also produced
a booklet to go along with the series. If you prefer you can have a
copy sent to you through the post.
