Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'd always thought that Harringay's relationship with roller skating started with the Arena in 1936, but I just came across this ad in a 1909 Hornsey Journal.

Anyone know everything about it? I wonder if it was a travelling show set-up of something more permanent?

Love this - there is a bit more about rollerskating and the roller derby on this wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harringay_Arena  and I think there used to be a rollerskating rink at Ali Pali too.

I really wish there was somewhere safe to rollerskate today or a group to rollerskate with....if you know of anyone do let me know!

Thanks for making the link. (I wrote all the Harringay Wikipedia articles btw). The Arena wasn't built till 1936, This ad takes roller skating in Harringay back to 1909. This much is new to me and I was wondering where it was, what it etc.

I went roller skating at Ali Pali in the early 1960s. I remember going there on a first date and being humiliated when I split my trousers at the knee when I fell.  It wasn't usual to have the knees out of your trousers in those days

That would be my dream to have that here now :-) I remember it being a Sunday market and before that Eddie kidd jumping 30 buses on his bike will ask my mum and dad about a roller rink they will love that poster
Dad doesn't know about that one but he went to the permanent one in the 50s it was on every night of the week apart from Christmas when they had a circus that man has a memory like I have never known ! They also had piano concerts and horse show of the year there it was all go in Haringay in them days
