Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Thanks to Andy Newman for this snap of  map in a shop window which reveals the previously unknown to me existence of the Dancing Academy in Fairfax Hall, Portland Gardens (now the Kurdish Centre).

The only information I can find on it through Google is that it was called the Fairfax Dancing Academy and was extended at some point by architects based at 78 Grand Parade:

For additions to Fairfax Dancing Academy, Portland Gardens, Harringay, N. Messrs. WTarran A Stupart, architects, 78, Grand-parade, Green Lanes, N. : — C. Hale A Co. £985 J. C. Haward £1,536 5 3 W. Lawrence A Son

How lovely to know there was a dancing academy right near where I live! I always thought there was a good vibe around here. People used to trip the light fandango then around the Gardens

Yes, it was linked by two tunnels. HoL member Richard Haddingham has sent me some railway maps detailing the area up to the bridge and the area around Harringay Station. The recreation ground today is the site of the Crusader Industrial Estate.

Ingo, who lives in the next plot along, The Arena Design Centre, tells me that it's still possible to see evidence of the tunnels today.

Between 1900 (Gardens area complete) and 1927 (No Harringay Stadium).
