I wonder if anyone has any information on, I believe, Wood Green resident, John Charles Stephen Mummery. Mummery was an architect (Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and expert photographer, serving as the President of the Royal Photographic Society for three years from 1907 to 1909. A member of the North Middlesex Photographic Society, Mummery was an expert in the gum-bicromate printing process. Another of his passions was angling, and was member of the Red Spinners Angling Society.
In this image of RPS judges in 1902 Mummery is the seated gentleman to the left.
As an architect Mummery's name is recorded on a stone laid on the front elevation of the Whitefield Tabernacle Congregational Church, Alexandra Park Road in 1907 (converted into flats in c. 2014) , together with the name of fellow architect, possibly Charles Lionel Fleming Williams.
Mummery was architect to the Edmonton Union, appointed to that position in 1910.
Don't know if this might help, but the name appears in the 1911 census (from FindMyast)
Architect and Surveyor of 85, Pellatt Grove Wood Green, Age 48, married 19 years to Mary Jane [Mummery]. He was born Iver, Bucks, has no children; the household also containa a servant and a visitor. He's also there in 1901, but in the 1891 cenus he was a lodger at 19 Camden Street, St Pancras. He crops up in the 1939 register as a retired architect, DoB 20 July 1862 (whcih matches the census age) at 12 Leamington Road, Bournemouth. His wife is still alive, and there is also an entry reading "Horace A Mummery born 1 Aug 1867 Artist Art Teacher (Retired) Single": from the DoB he cannot be a son, perhaps brother? or a more distant relative on his father's line? Hope this is of interest!
Thank you so much. Mummery seems an interesting character,
A sufficiently unusual surname to perhaps mention the only two Mummerys in a Hornsey & surrounds1906/7 directory, in case they become indirectly useful:
Commercial ---- Thomas A. Mummery, house furnisher, 133 Fortess Road
Residential ----- William Mummery, 90 Myddleton Road
