I've just stumbled across an article from the "The Legal observer, digest, and journal of jurisprudence" which informs us that the second owner of Harringay House, Edward Chapman was awarded £6,200 compensation by the courts for "residential damage consequent on the destruction of the privacy of the (Harringay) house" by the arrival of the Great Northern Railway. In today's values that's £4,260,000 using average earnings or £486,000 using the retail price index.
Phew!
