Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello all. Long-time lurker, first time poster, as they say.

I recently picked up this lovely Braddock photograph (not a postcard). The subject appears to be a school, college or other institution (children in the doorway, stern, uniformed figure).

It's not a building I recognise from Hornsey knowledge, but I wondered about Alfred's other stomping grounds in Hackney and Essex?

Thanks for posting, Simon. Yup, that's the east block and main assembly hall of the Home and Colonial College on Lordship Lane, Wood Green (now the Wood Green Crown Court where only the main building survives). You can see those two buildings from the other side in the image below. The part most people are familiar with is the main part to the left of this image.

By the way, following a request, I updated my HoL Braddock piece for the last Bulletin of the Hornsey Historical Society.

History of the building and more photos here.

Thanks, Hugh. I knew you’d know!
