Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

hi all,

I'm hoping for a bit if advice, I live just off green lanes but have lived in the area coming up 4 years. I realise it's incredibly sad that I'm writing this on NYE at 2350 but I do have to work tomorrow and I've finally lost it with my downstairs neighbours and quite frankly need a rant and advice if anyone has been in similar situations.

it's NYE and everyone loves a party but when does it become dangerous? I've just had my neighbours set off fireworks right next it my flat and the whole box exploded and quite frankly was very lucky not to have a firework though the window (thank goodness no one was hurt either), they are incredibly loud, music blaring, shouting and what sounds like banging on the ceiling. I don't want to sound like a bore but this will still be going on till tomorrow morning 11amish. I have this most weekends and a few week nights and I've honestly just had it. I've tried speaking to them and they're aggressive and rude and to be honest I'm terrified of them. I've had to call the police before which made the situation worse and the 'noise police' can never seem to do anything.

This also in a two bed flat, with a mother, father, kid and granddad living there. There is often over family members and friends who stay there for long periods of time.

Sorry for the rant/essay, but if anyone can advise me I'd really appreciate it. I'm fed up of being unhappy, uncomfortable and tired in my own house.

Move.   It's what we did when there was no reasoning with the dimwitted Polish DJ in the flat below us. The 'noise police' was over many times, achieved nothing. Costly but we never regretted it for a second.

Do you know if the property is privately owned/rented or council/housing association? Drop me a line with more details, address etc at Karen.alexander.haringeylibdems@gmail.com and I will try and help you resolve this problem.

What are the options if you're faced with private tenant or home owner? It would have been nice to not have to flee our place.

If it's a private tenant you can complain ( repeatedly ) to the landlord. Worked for me.

We tried that, it got us out of our contract early but that was about it.

Tell them you know where they park their car

It's important to keep a log of the nuisance, dates, times, how long it went on for and what it was. However, you should not have to put up with any form of aggression or intimidation from your neighbours. I know you think contacting the Police exacerbated the problem but it's wrong that these people think they can get away with treating you so badly.

Independent witnesses are also useful. If you know when this is going to go off again please post and I'm sure someone from HoL would be happy to sit in with you to act as a witness.

Enduring this harassment (which is what it is) is frightening and makes you feel powerless so please let us all know how things are going because you have a lot of folks on your side.

Michael

PS I also wonder about the welfare of a child living in what sounds like a chaotic household

I think these things get taken more seriously if their are kids involved, so find some examples of stupid dangerous things they do (such as the firework box for example) and report them to social services?
