Work has started on providing new equipment and improving existing play facilities at Ducketts Common, along with play areas at Wood Green Common, Down Lane Park, Markfield Park and Stationer's Park and play areas at three housing estates.
The Department for Education has provided £377,000 for the work, Haringey Council has contributed £275,000, with the balance being raised from external funding sources.
Cllr Dilek Dogus, Cabinet Member Adults and Community Services, said:
"Playgrounds are important for families with young children.
"Despite the current financial constraints on the council, we decided to make a contribution to the scheme, otherwise these improvements would not have been possible."
Ducketts Common will receive a large £30,000 multi-play unit, a pendulum swing, plus grassed play mounds and boulders, picnic tables and access improvements.
All existing play equipment will remain. Work started on 7 March and will be finished by 15 April.
Information on other play areas can be found here
