Just saw them today for the first time, and frankly I’m horrified.
One of them actually shoulder-barged my partner as she passed him, presumably to try and start something, but we just ignored it. Do we actually now have vigilantes on our high street? As Bob said, who pays for them? How much training have they had compared with a police officer, or even a community support officer?
Their website says they are here to ‘support businesses’. Not to support police, and not to protect the public, but to ‘support businesses’. They’re carrying handcuffs; do they also have an arrest warrant? If they don’t have the warrant, use of those handcuffs would be completely illegal.
Or have they just been given a rent-a-cop uniform and an attitude and left to get on with it?

I think they have the same status as a security guard in a shop, so not the same powers as the Police

Reading report seems to be different uniforms. Current Ones are Called Sheriffs and have Handcuffs.
Often seen them walking past incidents, just seem for Show. Tried to find who they answer to ?
My issue is have seen them having friendly chats with known Drug Sellers in Berners Road
