Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi

Has anyone had a woodburning stove fitted (inc chimney lining) in the last year or so?
Could you recommend a brand and type of stove?
Could you recommend a supplier and/or fitter?
Could you give some idea of cost of stove and fitting?
Thanks a million!

We have just got one installed- if you are around Pemberton message me and we can chat, and you can have a look at ours. I can give you some views as to folks to talk to as well.

just sent you a request so we can message.

Hi Ju

We got a Stockton 5 installed last year and have never looked back.  We bought ours independently but got it installed (including chimney lining) by Mark Featley who came recommended by Original features.

To install in London it must be from the following list:

We got a Bodart & Gonay installed independently and it has been great.

Thanks CanadianMichael!
Would you recommend your fitter? If so, could you pass on their details?

Thanks!

Thanks, Ian. Do you have a contact for Mark please?

Not sure if anyone was sending me messages (Pete?), but the only PM I have received is from Kirsten so far. Anyway, this is the one I went for- http://www.westfire.dk/fireplaces.aspx?ProductID=PROD68. It was about £800 if memory serves, which is more than some I could have gone for but we had some engineering issues that meant this was the only one form the range of options I actually liked. If you want to know where I got it from message me and I can tell you of my experience with the supplier, which I do not want to post here.

We used a fitter caller Mike Seymour who charged me around £2k to fit it. I suspect it is on the high side as he had to put a bit of effort in to get it fitted that most of you with chimneys still there would manage to avoid. Again, message me and I can tell you how I found working with him.

If anyone wants see the end result you are more than welcome to pop round and have a look and a chat.

Also. A question for those of you who have wood burning stoves.

Sometimes the glass gets grimed up, sometimes very tarry and grimed. I use the old water, newspaper and ash trick but this can take a long time if it is really bad, as it did this morning. Anyone got any other methods of cleaning especially dirty glass at all?

I use ceramic hob cleaner (designed for kitchen cookers). Works very well.

Thanks, appreciate it. Will give that a try.

I also used Mark Featley, he is very knowledgeable and can advise on stoves depending on your room size etc. They also have to be DEFRA approved which narrows things down considerably.
