Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Has anyone noticed two women of Eastern European appearence looking in the bins on Lausanne Road. Ive seen them doing this about three times now, and challenged one the other day who was actually ripping open the bags inside the bins. I asked her what was she doing, and she held up a saucepan, and a drainer. They have  a pink shopping trolley and walk up and down the road looking in the bins. Im concerned about this as I have recently found out my debit card had been cloned, with someone trying to take money out in Columbia ! Im wondering if I should contact the police about this..

I have also encountered this recently. A middle-aged Roma woman sifting through bins on Seymour Road. I told her it wasn't really on and she spoke hardly any English, but just said "Problem?" and I said "Yes, problem". She then vanished off. She had the shopping trolley as described.

My impression was it's just a particularly desperate - and, let's face it, pretty sad - means of getting metals to recycle.

I'd be really surprised if this was anything to do with card cloning or Colombia, personally.

Sorry to hear about your problems with this, though.

It's more like yet another example of how the 18th century has never really left us.

this has been discussed on HOL a few times

I think they're just after metal for its scrap value, they've been up Hornsey Park Road once or twice.  They just seem incredibly poor and desperate

Im all for recycling , but Im not happy with them going through my bin bags and ripping them open to let the rubbish out into the bin, when I have carefully tied it up, for hygiene reasons. Also if they DROP any personal infomation on the floor this could be used by someone else  for indentity fraud. Im afraid if I see them in my bins I will not be happy.

They were spotted on Avondale road the other day.
I agree that this is all very sad and it's just scrap metal they're 'liberating' - legally or otherwise.
Re. Identity theft, it is probably the next step and those desperate enough could be coaxed into looking for bits of paperwork that they can sell on. Best advice is to shred anything/everything that could possibly be used to clone your identity or personal/bank details...

Is probably the only way to keep yourself totally safe
