I warned my friend Lucy Lastic (retired) about forthcoming wind and she promised not to eat any sprouts until Christmas day (which was a relief to all of us in the Bolts/Lazers care home, however it wasn't quite what I meant). I was awoken at 5am this morning after getting in from work (the Polish workman was renovating my lamp post as a special favour) by a very loud noise I looked out the window and there was Lucy being blown through the sky in her wheelchair wearing bright red shoes, closely followed by the neighbours shed, a dog and other paraphernalia. "Where are you going", I asked. "Oz" She replied, and quickly disappeared over the the horizon. Why she didn't use Quantas like every body else I have no idea.

Hi, Hows Stephenbin? I cant recall meeting you. Seymour Dicks on Ducketts Common rings a bell. I am Poppy Tupper, 69 High Rise, Balls Pond Road, Welwyn, Herts. I shall ask my friend Lucy Lastic when she gets back from Oz (I hope she's ok) if she has encountered you she's been around a lot more than me. Especially when she got a puncture in her mobility scooter she was going round and round for hours until she was rescued by one of those nice LGBT community policemen/women/whatever (Lucy thought LGBT was a sandwich)

For those of you mystified by the banter here. Poppy Tupp & Seymour were part of the routine of Lee Sutton, a 1960s drag artistE. I first had the opportunity to see 'her' act in 1969 and never expected the polari to turn up here on HoL.. :-)

Well Stephenbin its bona to vada your dolly old eke. I hope the lallies are holding up and you havent lost too much riah. I manage to evade Lily Law whilst hanging around my lamp post as I did whilst cottaging at Ducketts Common (it was just called Ducketts before my friend Lucy Lastic (divorced) went there). Must go there's a couple of bona hommies waiting at my Latty. One of thems a bit of an omi palone and the others a bit butch and naff but bona carts and a decent packet You have to get it where you can at my age otherwise they'll be nante trade from now on. Off I mince so i can put me slap on and pop out for a quick troll ps I (re)aquired two of Lees albums recently from Norman Scott (ex Bolts DJ) Laughed till the tears were running down me lallies ;)

I used to love seeing Lee on his occasional forays north of the river to the Black Cap in Camden Town. Let's not forget the other lovely Queens who graced the stage via the worlds worst dressing room which was a cubicle in the gents lav at the back.

I've not hear of Lee Sutton until now, but I do know my parents were fans of Julian and Sandy (Round the Horne)

Angela, when I first saw Lee Sutton at The Union Tavern in Camberwell in 1969, I was under age, but did look older than I actually was. He really was a great performer, used no playback, sang and played piano. I used to try and stand right at the front, next to his piano, but it wasn't always good fun, as he tended to pick on those defenceless souls at the front and send them up !
In the late 60s, early 70s polari was still used 'on the scene'.. and it didn't take long to pick it up. I never enjoyed using it myself, but did understand, I suppose you could say I was fluent. The scene changed and by the 80s, polari had gone out of fashion. Julian & Sandy were certainly taken from real life. There was a famous couple at Earl's Court called the Dolly SIsters who were the real life Ju & Sand. :-)

OMG we some how share the same life (are you not my dopplegangbanger. Lucy & I used to travel from Enfield (middlesex, how apt) to Camberwell EVERY Tuesday to see Lee Sutton. With that wonderful LIVE act. This is just a sample: " Is it true what they say about sailors? is it true what they say sailors do? do they love'em and leave'em in every port? is every good matelot the rollicking sort? what exactley goes on on the poop deck? well it makes you think, do they toss in their hammocks all night?.................. I was in the navy for a bit. I was ok until they said oars overboard. I got soaked. When I said throw me a bouy. The captain said "This is no time for fun" X (i dont often send a kiss)

Well, well Claire, there you are. Long time no anything Hows Mater & Pater? The last I heard Mater was in 'The Home For Retired Brownies' and Pater was in 'The Centre For Discharged Seaman' (of which you were Vice President) You're not all sequins and tiaras yourself Do you remember when our brother thought he was a crocodile and the authorities said he had to be put away? You refused and had him made into a hand bag with shoes to match.
