Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

CABE have pronounced themselves 'disappointed' with it, English Heritage find it 'incoherent and awkward'.

Spurs fan and architecture critic Rowan Moore discuss the problems with the design of Spurs' new stadium in today's Standard.

Acknowledging that, most football fans would watch their team in stadia built out of plastic drain sections and reused scrap metal, which is what, indeed,
many of them look like.

...he poses the question, given the chance to create a wholly new stadium development, why wouldn't you want it to be as classy and skilful as the best players?

Is the stadium an architectural turkey?

Does it matter as long as it brings regeneration to the area?

Twickenham. One BR station a fair walk from the ground. Very little trouble. I wonder what it is they play there and how the policing of the crowd is approached?
I do take your point John that you don't get the idiots at egg chasing that you do at football. However there is discriminative legislation in this country that applies to football, football grounds ad football supporters. Traditionally, in this country, football was a working class game and Rugby a middle-upper class sport, the divide is still there regarding how the authorities treat them, that is resented at every level. The most fighting and racism I have ever witnessed was at a Rugby game in Dunedin.

If you give people the respect, freedom and choice then they will not bow down to mob rule. Giving fans the facilities at grounds such as the new Spurs ground, will make for a better experience, spectator and community. If your frogmarched in the opposite direction like cattle by the Old Bill, you're going to resent that.

The police also have a very poor attitude towards football fans (some might agree warranted) and seem to treat all football fans as yobs. This has come from the horses mouth, a good friend of mine who is head of crowd control with the police in another city. This is also my experience and that of some respectable supporters associations, sadly.

Twickenham also has plenty of car parking for the Range Rovers and Tractors too : )
As a comparison.. thought I'd add this shot from a postcard in my collection.. (another bird's-eye view)

I imagine it dates from the early days of the electric trams in 1904. Perhaps that accounts for the large amount of people out and about..
Haringey Indy reports today that Spurs have withdrawn the plans in order to make a few amendments. Story here
