Despite the rather odd weather (or perhaps typical April weather) that swings from hot and sunny to cold, sharp showers, the insect life of Railway Fields is busy. There are many different bees flying now including bumblebees, solitary bees and flower bees, like this splendid male Hairy Footed Flower Bee
You may also notice something that looks a bit like a bee but on closer inspection has distinctly fly like wings and a very long proboscis. This is the bee fly, a cute looking insect with a dark side
There's also butterflies appearing in greater numbers. Joining the brimstone, there are holly blues, orange tips and speckled woods all flying as soon as the sun comes out
Why not pop along to see what you can spot in Railway Fields this week? We are open Saturday as well from 10am to 1.45pm
