Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

"The Council is committed to involving and consulting with local people in all planning processes and decisions. Local views on development and change in the borough will help to shape the future of the borough.

The Council produce a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) because we are committed to listening to local people and taking their views into account. When it comes to all the physical changes taking place we would like to hear what you have to say, so that we can use residents’ and other stakeholders’ views to shape the way local areas change."

From the attached document as part of a statutory submission to government.

Statement of Community Involvement is indeed a requirement of central government. So maybe the the paragraph above could read "The Council produce a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) because it is a requirement of central government". It relates only to planning?

Haringey also publishes a Consultation Charter. I think it is rarely honoured, especially the point "We will include information about other issues and facts being considered by decision-makers alongside the consultation results".

I'd like to assess each of Haringey's consultations against some quasi-scientific scoring system. The table below has a weighting for each bullet point in the charter, multiply the weighting by the score awarded for compliance and arrive at a score out of 500.

GLSG is a Haringey body(?) and its reps were asked to consult. So by my scoring system I'd assess this consultation as, in the same order as the bullet points:

weighting   mark  score

0,                10,     0

6                    0     0

2                   0      0

-5                  1    -5

7                   0      0

7                   1      7

10                  0     0

8                    0     0

2                    0     0

0                   10    0

8                     0    0

Giving a total of 2 out of 500.
