I've had to move away from Harringay temporarily and here's what hurts:
Coffee
There's no decent coffee in Torquay. Seriously. It's weaker than Starbuck's or something you'd give a child and if there's foam it's artificial and crunchy. Yesterday I drove 8 miles so someone would put a proper foam on my coffee. I think some of the Torquay coffin dodgers would keel over if faced with an evil black turkish coffee from Cafe Lemon in all its fruity, grainy yumminess.
I don't care if I sound like a London ponce, good coffee is important!
Shops
Everywhere shuts at 5 and nowhere is open Sundays. What if I want to buy fresh broccoli at 11pm? WHAT THEN? I'd have to drive to Green Lanes where I'd have my pick of late-night grocery shops for those midnight brassica cravings.
Food
Mixed Gozleme from Hala for lunch, yellow lupin beans from Yasar Halim with a glass of cold beer, a crunchy falafel wrap from Flame. Buttery spinach boreks. Bastik and olives from Michli and Sons. A beer and a pizza in the Salisbury. Pancakes with syrup at Cafe Lemon. Sausage sandwiches in Cafe Lemon. Actually, anything at all in Cafe Lemon.
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS, ALL OF YOU!

*weeping* coffee and a pancake from Cafe Lemon? thanks Jessica
What I miss (even though I am only a mile down the road)
The people from my road.
Yasar Halim for the produce, the flat breads, the lovely breakfast pastries and milk at 39p a pint (59 down here).
The massive veggie breakfast at Cafe Lemon.
The fact that I can do all my food shopping in the length of Green Lanes between my road and the next road up (about 200 yards).
The transport links.
Can't wait to get back there.
A lovely post!
If it makes you feel better Sophie, traffic chaos is no doubt about to start on Green Lanes (extra traffic lights between Endymion and Manor House for a few weeks...). You won't miss that!
If you're missing a little bit of 'London ponce' try the Cary Arms
Great shoreline pub with good food and drink and the discussions vary from the, underclass, nanny comparisons to missing pedigree cats, a home from home. I am there a week on Saturday.
I cannot vouch for the coffee but the Tribute is delectable!
I was there last week for a G+T and saw a seal! (not in the pub, in the sea) I agree it's a great pub - the climb up the hill afterwards is a bastard though!
I lived in Paignton years ago for a blessedly short time. It is death by bungalow land. Winter is grim.
I feel your pain Sophie.
Probably not much consolation Sophie, but I'm going to use your 'Food' list as a checklist for new places I need to try!!
And please someone try the new pancake joint next to the Salisbury for me!
Alex: it's the golden triangle as far as I'm concerned. Yasar Halim; Lemon opposite, Hala next to that and a brief stroll to Michli and Sons on Salisbury Road just opposite. And Flame, because the toilets are so clean, if you fancy a detour (and a halloumi wrap).
I brought some Gozleme into work for my lunch yesterday and my colleagues were impressively mystified - they had never seen the like?! "Are you from the future?" one asked me... now I know what to bring in as food for the next team day at least, heh.
I used to live in Devon in Dartmouth, and have to laugh at this. I will say what i miss from Devon. I miss the fresh meat from the local farms, knowing it is not horse because the farm butcher slaughtered it, that isnt thrown on the floor of a lorry and then picked up for consumption. I miss the scenery the beautiful rolling sea and hills, I miss the genuine people who wouldn't stab you in the back, or hold a gun to your head, or stab you, quite literally. I miss the coffee in Serendipity on the terrace (try it honest they are good, or go to Dartmouth and use Al frescos where every cup is organic. My suggestion would be use the farm shop once a week between newton abbot and totnes for fresh veg and meat (no horse allowed) and really enjoy living in such a beautiful part of the country, I am very jealous, hope you enjoy, but i do agree about shops closing early and havng a headache at 10pm and not being able to get tablets lol good luck
