I have seen several posts suggesting Puran as the place to go, but does anyone still recommend Jashan after the change of ownership a while back? I went in soon after the management changed the layout to a more canteen like configuration and the whole experience left me flat. Has anyone had the take away recently and is is still worth it?

I've had a couple of deliveries from Jashan and the food was good. Reminded me of the food you get in my favourite at the end of the parade, Salims. I never ate there when it was a restaurant so cannot compere it now to what it was in its previous days.
Thanks. We would always go for Jashan take out but a friend recently said he felt it had slipped. Good to know it might be worth continuing to stick with them.

My favourite is still Salims near Wightman Rd. Looks basic but the food is excellent, if a little hot for some. Their lamb curry is the best I've tasted anywhere and the people there are friendly.
Takeaway is still very good and super cheap if you order online. The front of the restaurant is run by different people to the back, we were told. Front is the Salim Spice people; back is old-skool Jashan.
We were big fans of Jashan for years, a real gem of fine South Indian cuisine. In addition, kind service (efficiency and speed are not always desirable but kindness is always welcome!) the decor and table setting (linen napkins) were a good reason to show off our neighbourhood favourite whenever we had a chance. Since the refurbishment, we have had deliveries and although they were okay, the dishes were not as delicious as they used to be, but then again we always dined in at Jashan’s. Now we go to Puraan, which offers amazingly tasty vegetarian South Indian (Kerala) recipes, but we intend to also try Salims, where I imagine recipes from other parts of South Asia might be good.
It is interesting to hear that the front of the restaurant is run by different people from the back kitchen. I thought I had noticed this at the refurbished ex Taksim, now Rosie on Green Lanes, where we had a very tasty and generous lunch recently. Is this a new restaurant model?
