Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hey,

Me and my flatmates are having a bit of a discussion around recycling bags. We used to think we had to put our recycling into clear bags but they are really hard to get by in Haringey and I'm not convinced that that is even necessary. What kind of bags do other people put in their recyclables?

I have been following this discussion. As with waste collection and dumping, lots of people have lots of ideas and experience of different systems. It seems to me that with a new council we have an opportunity to work differently with residents and engage positively in working groups with officers from Haringey  and Veolia to develop some fresh strategies - which we could try out.  My experience is that local knowledge and perspective is vital - problems are seen differently because this is where we live, not our workplace. So combining professional and local knowledge is important in problem solving.

Being ready to engage in this way is I hope part of a cultural shift in Haringey regarding working with our communities.

Zena, do you think there would be any chance of a new Labour administration engaging with residents about garden waste collection, even reversing the recent changes?

Hi Hugh

I think that is an excellent suggestion and I would hope that the new Labour administration would do exactly that!

All the best
