Hi. I am looking to set up a fairly simple web site to host some information about our rental property in the Alps (this is the Facebook site my wife set up recently- https://www.facebook.com/androsace24).
Two questions:
Thanks a lot in advance.

Wordpress would be a very good route to go for a simple, attractive website. It's also very easy to add functionality to if you get more confident. You can probably find templates for rental properties that would do half the set up for you, you just upload your own photos and content (search for 'Wordpress rental properties themes').
There are two different versions of Wordpress: wordpress.com and wordpress.org
On the .com you can get a completely free, hosted website (they sort out all the technical stuff for you) but your URL will be something like myalspchalet.wordpress.com.
If you want to have more control use wordpress.org installed on your own domain. This is very easy to set up. I use a number of hosts, but I currently favour tsohost.co.uk for simple wordpress sites. It's about £15 per year including the domain name and they specialise in hosting Wordpress sites. Their support is very good and they'll help you get set up.
Hope that's useful.
Just to add: avoid any website builders offered by hosting companies. They tend to be a bit rubbish and tie you to that host and system for ever. Wordpress (and other open source CMS systems) allow you to take your website and content where ever you want - i.e. if you needs change.
Thanks- that is excellent.
Wordpress is free and even I can use it. Lots of great templates etc. You should be up an running in an hour or so.
Not v familiar with WordPress, but would recommend Moonfruit. It's a website offering a wide range of editable templates and provides hosting for only £4 per month.
It's incredibly simple to use, register, create an account and build your site. There are lots of templates to choose from but what I liked was how easy it is to adapt them to your own requirements. It also has widgets that you can upload to add a Twitter feed etc. The only support is via email, but I've found this works well. Any probs have been resolved within 24 hours
Thanks- will check it out.
How much are they Hugh? Cheers
Hey - yes I agree WP is the way forward. Mainly because you can easily google 'how do I do this in Wordpress' and use the forum. I taught myself - all the domain pointing business is fairly straightforward if you take the time to engage with it. I built a B+B website for my Mum using it and it's been fine. Personally I used Bluehost and I've used iPage in the past. I've been fairly impressed with Bluehost's support live chat feature and you can install Wordpress. I think you could do worse than use them. The costs are fairly comparable.
Thanks everyone! Much appreciated.
