Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Watch the film of the launch of Haringey Vanguard: "We Have Always Been Here" on YouTube

Last week saw the online launch event for Haringey Vanguard, a two-year project to collect and preserve the history of BAME LGBTQ+ community activism in Haringey, from the 1970s to the 1990s. Bruce Castle Museum and Archive was partnered by London Metropolitan Archives on the project, and it was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The evening was a skilfully-woven mix of live discussions and pre-recorded clips involving a range of people who had all taken part in this flagship project: the volunteers, project staff and oral history interviewees. The film can be viewed here

The Haringey Vanguard archives and over 40 oral histories collected through the project will be available for all to access at Bruce Castle. The Museum will be hosting the exhibition We Have Always Been Here, when they are able to reopen again after the Covid restrictions are lifted.

In the meantime, you can explore more about the project and have a sneak preview of some of the oral histories and archive collections, by taking a look at the new project website by following the link here (please note the website is a work in progress and is currently having just a few more things added to it)
