Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This is a new initiative by Haringey Council to keep our elders and vulnerable residents warm, healthy and active.

Many elderly and vulnerable people are reluctant or too proud to ask for help or let it be known they are cutting down on heating to save money. The council are trying to make contact with these residents to help them with grants and benefits that they are entitled to and are being provided for in this project.

This project focuses on:
    • warmth grants
    • benefits advice
    • accident prevention
    • ways of keeping active and social
    • help with the digital switchover

Cold homes have a significant impact on older people's health and one of the best ways of staying healthy is to stay warm. The chance of experiencing serious illness during the winter increases if you are elderly or vulnerable to cold-weather because of medical conditions or reduced mobility.”

Help and advice with the TV digital switchover is also being offered. As you will know, from 4th of April analogue TV will be turned off leaving many elderly and vulnerable residents who are unaware or do not understand the digital switchover, without a working television. There is help available with either a free 'Free View box' or a significant discount depending on eligibility.

Should you know of an elderly or vulnerable resident who may benefit from this project, or for further information on the Warm and Health project please contact Haringey Council on 020 8489 1400 or e-mail IAT@haringey.gov.uk.
