Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

I'm in process of building a new bike for my wife, but in the meantime she needs one to ride to work.

I wondered if anyone had a small frame, preferably ladies bike that she could borrow or rent cheaply for a month or two while I finish hers off?

We would obviously insure it adequately for the time we had it.

Many thanks
Dan

These are not particularly helpful if you want to travel door to door - the nearest docking station to Haringey appears to be in Angel.

Indeed, that is the nearest. My wife needs to ride St Ann's Road to Muswell Hill so no TFL bikes for her. Also they are lumps of lead to ride!

My neighbour has a small frame ladies bike she has locked up unused for over 9 months. Shall I ask her if you can rent hers? Every day I see it and I think what a shame it's been left there so long. I cycle myself, so I feel it is a waste to leave a bike there like that. I'm loving Wightman Road at the moment - for the first time cycling in 10 years I no longer fear getting maimed by aggressive drivers speeding on this road. It's oddly peaceful and wonderful! Great time to be cycling for all.

Thanks @smurfett, that would be great. Please let me know how you get on.

Many thanks again
Dan

I have a dissembled small ladies bike in the loft. It was last built up as a single speed with coaster brake but I'm pretty sure I still have all the bits to make it a geared bike if she prefers (assuming she's ok with downtube shifters)

Looked like this as a single speed:

Thank LSquared, I'm going to wait to see how Smurfett gets on first having already asked, but otherwise I might well take you up on that. Did you discover if you had the gearing parts? With Muswell Hill involved this is almost certainly a job for a multi-speed!

I've just texted my neighbour's boyfriend, I'm sure he'll get back to me quickly. I think they're both away or I'd just go upstairs and ask! We live on Wightman Road and the small ladies bike is a Peugeot. I will let you know the response as soon as I hear.

Hi Dan

I can put the original 5 speed wheel, rear mech and downtube shifter back, but not the front mech and gears. Also it'll be 27" rear and 700 front.

Any good to you?

Hello Dan, I heard back from my neighbour who has said that she intends to use the bike as it's spring time. Sorry - I had assumed that as it has been locked unused in exactly the same spot for almost 9 months that mine was a sensible suggestion. Such a shame to see a bike left there like that and it is a lovely bike too! Well, I'm sorry I couldn't connect you to my neighbour. I sent a persuasive text, alas it didn't quite cut it.

Ah, that's a shame, but thanks very much for trying anyway!

£10 says it's still there come summer ;-)

Thanks again
Dan
I've got a ladies bike she can borrow. A Pashley Princess. It's a lovely bike and I'm not getting any use out of it at the moment. Heavy though which might be a consideration if there are any hills on her route. Has a flat that needs repairing. But let me know if you're interested.
